Diego My Main Man

DIEGO

My Main Man & Dora’s brother. He was a true gentleman. And wonderful guardian to Dora and myself. He had a sweetness about him, and quite often used that quality to assist other animals, and help them overcome their fears. I remember him spending time escorting a little terrier dog across a creek. He went back multiple times to show the little one exactly what rocks to walk upon. Until he made it safely across. So very nurturing.

He used to point out livestock on our road trips, he would tap my left shoulder for a cow and right shoulder for a horse. He would only accept treats from my right hand, and loved to shake hands and give high fives. After eating he would jump onto the lounge to receive a back rub and massage to burp him. If I was ever sad he was sit on his hind legs and put both his paws on me, giving me “Reiki”.

Diego passed in an unexpected way. In hindsight, I had received visions leading up to this period. Where his back legs were no longer working. The evening prior to his passing, I couldn’t sleep at all. So I just lied in bed with Diego and Dora. Telling them how proud I was of who they had become and the way they behaved. How excited I was for our future. The next morning Diego had taken himself for a walk, up the mountain, and the last vision I have of him in motion is of him zig zagging down the mountain, with a massive crow chasing him.

I was in the chicken coop when I heard the skid, thump and small yelp. I knew it was Diego and went running down to the roadway. He was already sitting in the grass, on the side of the driveway. I looked down at his back legs, they were bleeding badly with most of the internal workings on display. I ran up the hill to get the car, and he tried to follow. I got him in the car took him straight to the vets.( thinking he would require surgery & extensive physio). However, the vets said nothing could be done, as most of the tendons needed to do surgery were still on the road. I got him the strongest sedative they had and placed my greenstone on his neck. And the most amazing vet nurse Kylie, drove me home to get Dora, so she could say goodbye to her brother. Well Dora was way more interested in getting love and pats from the staff. They laid him on a blanket on the lawn, I then noticed how much pain he was in and asked them to put him to sleep as soon as possible. With a heavy heart and a massive hug. I said goodbye to my main man.

From this I understood that Dora and Diego had already made peace with his passing. They know.

Diego still sends me messages all the time. Usually in the form of 4 leaf clovers. He was such an over achiever in life, that he sometimes sends 5 and 6 leaf clovers too. Bless him. Dora was a great example of how I should grieve, remembering the good times. Not dwelling on that one sad day.
